Gulu University Delegation Visits Maseno University to Strengthen Academic Collaboration
Maseno University recently hosted a high-level delegation from Gulu University in a strategic visit aimed at strengthening academic partnerships and advancing collaborative initiatives under the Building Stronger Universities (BSU IV) Programme. The visit reflects a growing commitment among African higher education institutions to foster regional cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development.
The delegation from Gulu University was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru and was received by Maseno University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, alongside senior university management and faculty members. The engagement provided a platform for both institutions to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore opportunities for joint programming.
Advancing Shared Academic Goals
Central to the discussions was the need to enhance teaching and learning methodologies, particularly through the adoption of innovative approaches such as problem-based learning and digital education. Both universities acknowledged the importance of leveraging technology to improve access, quality, and inclusivity in higher education.

A major outcome of the visit was the commitment to strengthen ICT infrastructure and digital capacity. Maseno University, recognized for its advancements in digital systems and e-learning platforms, shared best practices with the Gulu University team. Plans were discussed to support the establishment of an ICT Centre of Excellence at Gulu University, which will enhance digital learning, research capabilities, and innovation ecosystems.
This collaboration is particularly significant in bridging digital gaps and promoting knowledge exchange within the region, positioning both institutions as leaders in ICT-driven education.
Promoting Regional and Global Partnerships
The visit further reinforced the importance of South–South collaboration, where institutions within the Global South work together to address shared challenges. Through the BSU IV framework, Maseno University and Gulu University aim to deepen their partnership through staff and student exchanges, joint curriculum development, and collaborative research projects.
