Localization of Forced Migration Research and Knowledge Production in Kenya
Abstract
This learning brief emphasizes the need to localize refugee research in Kenya, highlighting the dominance of foreign researchers and the lack of local perspectives. It advocates for the Kenya Evidence Platform Project, which supports local research on durable solutions for refugees and strengthens the capacity of local researchers. Key messages include the importance of co-producing knowledge with refugees and local communities, addressing research gaps, and enhancing policy and practice through locally-generated research. Challenges include limited financial resources and inadequate capacity among local actors. Recommendations focus on capacity building, inclusive dissemination, and prioritizing local voices.
